Job summary

Core Scientific is seeking an Assistant Manager, Critical Facilities, to oversee data center operations, maintenance, and staff. You will help ensure 100% uptime, manage power/cooling, and coordinate with contractors across 24/7 shifts.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree related to mission-critical operations or equivalent experience, 3+ years in mission-critical environments, and 1+ year of supervisory experience. On-site in Dalton, GA with travel as needed.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operation and maintenance of critical and non-critical data center infrastructure, equipment, and systems.
• Build a staff of technicians to achieve total uptime while minimizing risks for customers.
• Manage power and cooling capacity and monitor environmental conditions within data halls.
• Work shifts to support 24/7 data center operations and support maintenance activities.
• Resolve electrical, mechanical, and fire protection issues and communicate with management and customers.
• Lead in coordinating construction, commissioning, and transition to sustainable operations.
• Review preventive maintenance results and advise on fixes.
• Own and manage CMMS for ongoing evolution and operation of the facility.
• Ensure CMMS usage and data integrity; generate operational reports as needed.
• Enforce adherence to SLAs and change control activities.
• Coordinate and review work by outside contractors and vendors.

The Job The Assistant Manager, Critical Facilities, is responsible for all aspects of data center operations and maintenance of critical and non‑critical data center infrastructure, equipment, systems, and staff, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to safety and reliability within the Data Center. Working with the Critical Facilities Manager, assist in building a team of Critical Facilities Technicians (CFTs), Engineers, and outside contractors capable of achieving 100% availability. The Assistant Manager understands and can train staff on colocation data center environments, including the planning and layout of power and cabling, customer needs, and remote hands functions.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the management of the day‑to‑day operation and maintenance of critical and non‑critical data center infrastructure, equipment, and systems.
• Build a staff of technicians with the necessary skill sets to accomplish data center operations that deliver total availability (100% uptime) while minimizing risks for customers.
• Manage power and cooling capacity and monitor environmental conditions within data halls.
• Work shifts to support 24/7 data center operations, have flexibility in work hours to cover other shifts, and support maintenance activities, as needed.
• Resolve all electrical, mechanical, and fire protection system issues in the data center while minimizing risks and communicating issues to management and customers.
• Assist in a leadership capacity, coordinating data center construction and commissioning, and overseeing the transition from construction to sustainable operations.
• Review results from preventive maintenance inspections and provide guidance on how to address issues found.
• Assume an ownership stake in the ongoing evolution and operation of the facility's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Ensure that all staff adhere to company standards for using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Oversee accuracy and completeness of the CMMS, produce operational reports as needed.
• Enforce strict adherence to customer SLAs and change control activities.
• Responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and reviewing work handled by outside contractors and vendors.
• In the absence of the manager, assume a leadership role with limited authority.
• Assist with site tours for current and future customers as required.
• Manage work schedules and assignments.
• Foster open, respectful, and professional communication directly within the team as well as with co‑workers/ teammates and leaders across the organization.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study, technical school with an emphasis on mission‑critical operations or high‑performance manufacturing, relevant military operations, or equivalent experience is required.
• 3+ years’ experience in mission‑critical environments, required.
• 1+ year(s) of direct management of non‑exempt shift‑based employees, required.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Experience in creating and managing a critical infrastructure preventive maintenance program is required.
• Experience establishing a new colocation data center or data hall, preferred.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills required for interacting with internal employees and leaders, and external contractors and customers.
• Strong analytical and decision‑making skills are required for understanding and evaluating complex problems, including analyzing a situation, identifying solutions, and selecting the best solution.
• Ability to operate effectively in high‑pressure, mission‑critical environments.
• Able to understand and train others on electrical and mechanical systems, as well as other technical aspects of critical systems management.
• Able to read and understand complex drawings, systems, and other documentation.

Travel: Occasional travel between data centers may be required as needed.

Work Environment

This job operates in a data center, office, and shop environment. This role routinely uses standard maintenance equipment, including ladders, scissor lifts, forklifts, power tools, and voltmeters. While performing these duties, the employee will be exposed to hot and cold environments.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full‑time, onsite position. Shifts may vary according to the site. Provide on‑call support and respond to all data center emergencies 24/7, including on‑site response outside of scheduled shifts.
