Position Overview
The Assistant Credit Manager will lead our credit and deductions team to ensure optimal management of our accounts receivable portfolio. This leadership role combines hands-on credit management with team supervision, working directly with the Corporate Credit Manager to maintain healthy cash flow, minimize bad debt, and uphold company credit policies across all Ashley locations.
What You'll Do
Leadership & Team Management
- Directly supervise credit department professionals, providing coaching, mentoring, and development
- Make employment decisions including hiring, promotions, performance management, and corrective actions
- Conduct weekly team meetings and regular one-on-one employee development sessions
- Audit team performance to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures
- Manage employee time-keeping and attendance records
Credit Operations
- Monitor and oversee all deductions and returns & allowance issues across geographical territories
- Maintain assigned customer territory, collecting on account balances and managing past due accounts
- Review work of Credit & Deductions Specialists and provide technical guidance
- Field inquiries from internal teams, customers, drivers, and marketing specialists
- Work to decrease deductions and resolve open issues to maintain clear A/R balances
Process Improvement & Performance
- Utilize continuous improvement tools to enhance departmental performance measures
- Improve working conditions and processes through employee participation programs
- Ensure credit and collection policies are administered consistently across all Ashley locations
- Collaborate with senior management to meet company goals and maintain acceptable bad debt levels
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or related field
- Experience: 4+ years in credit or finance-related roles
- Leadership: Supervisory or management experience
- Excellent oral and written communication abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to handle difficult customer and employee situations
- Proficient computer skills including internet, email, and office software
- Proven problem-solving abilities in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
- Ability to lead teams, promote teamwork, and drive results
- Strong ethics, integrity, and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Positive, professional attitude that motivates and inspires others
- Travel: Occasional domestic travel required
- Hours: Flexibility to work extended hours as business needs dictate
- Physical Requirements: Primarily sedentary office work with ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
