Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist Crating Manager in planning, organizing, and directing the crating department activities.
  • Directly supervise crating supervisors, leads and department drivers; assign tasks and evaluate performance.
  • Coordinate production schedules to ensure timely crate orders.
  • Review customer requirements and blueprints for crate specifications.
  • Oversee crate construction for accuracy and quality; ensure client specs are met.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate procurement of crating materials.
  • Enforce safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Troubleshoot crate construction and workflow bottlenecks.
  • Maintain records of production metrics, inventory, and quality checks.
  • Communicate with clients and internal stakeholders to address concerns and ensure satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with shipping/logistics for crate deliveries; participate in equipment selection.
  • Attend MEI leadership/management meetings as requested.
  • Local travel for client site meetings and job walks.
  • Stay current on industry trends and best practices in crating.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Crating Manager assists in overseeing the operations of the crating department, ensuring timely and efficient production according to customer specifications. This role involves supervising crating staff, coordinating workflow, and maintaining quality standards to meet client requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, experience in crate construction, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Crating Manager in planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the crating department.
  • Directly supervise one or more crating supervisors, leads and crating department drivers, including assigning tasks, providing training, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Coordinate production schedules to ensure timely completion of crate orders.
  • Review customer requirements and blueprints to determine appropriate crate specifications.
  • Oversee crate construction, ensuring accuracy, quality, and adherence to client specifications.
  • Monitor inventory levels of crating materials and coordinate procurement as needed.
  • Implement and enforce safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to crate construction and workflow bottlenecks.
  • Maintain records of crating activities, including production metrics, inventory levels, and quality control checks.
  • Communicate with clients and internal stakeholders to address concerns and ensure customer satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education):
  • High School diploma or equivalent with continuing education in Business, Project or Construction Management or related degree is a plus.
  • Previous experience in crating construction; experience in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Knowledge of crating techniques, tools, and materials used in crating.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and coach team members.
  • Excellent organizational and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and ability to learn new software systems.
  • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to climb, stand; walk; sit; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; use fingers and hands. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The Assistant Crating Manager is subject to possible exposure to extreme year‑round outdoor environmental conditions and may also be subject to working weekends and holidays.
