$85,000 annually for licensed attorney, commensurate with experience. Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in Texas.
• Criminal law or criminal justice background preferred.
• Experience with pretrial matters, plea negotiations, discovery, and research.

The Brazos County Attorney’s Office has an immediate opening for an Assistant County Attorney to prosecute misdemeanor criminal cases.

Available Start Date:September 14, 2026

$85,000 annually (for licensed attorney)

Job Description:Reviews and handles all pretrial matters on assigned cases, prepares witness lists for trial, conducts plea bargain negotiations with defense attorneys and pro se defendants, oversees discovery production, drafts any required motions, preparing any necessary exhibits or charts for trial, engages in any legal research for trial or suppression hearings, performs any post-trial procedures needed and researches and responds to appellate briefs.

Any other duties as assigned.

Experience: A license to practice law in Texas. A criminal law and/or criminal justice background is preferred.

Skills: Legal research and writing, persuasive speaking, operate computers, able to handle a variety of tasks, able to communicate effectively with people and maintain good working relationships with others
