Job summary

City of Boston is seeking an Assistant Corporation Counsel to represent the City, its Fire Department, Police Department, and Public Schools in state and federal forums. You will perform legal research, draft ordinances, and prepare opinions on civil actions, arbitrations, and administrative matters.

The role requires a Juris Doctor and up to two years of legal experience; Massachusetts licensure with no disciplinary record is required.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor required.
• Up to two years of experience as a lawyer in a law firm or governmental legal office.
• Licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with no disciplinary record.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Westlaw, and Social Law Library.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail.

Responsibilities

• Provides in-house counsel representation to the City and its agencies.
• Manage a caseload and represent the City in all cases as assigned.
• Conduct all court proceedings for the City and agencies.
• Prepare for arraignments, trials, and hearings in state and federal courts.
• Review and draft ordinances and render opinions on legal issues.
