Job summary

Child Development in California is seeking an Assistant Cook under the supervision of the assigned cook to prepare and serve meals while adhering to sanitation procedures and safety standards.

You will assist in menu planning, nutrition education activities with staff and children, and perform recordkeeping and related tasks. The role includes meal preparation in the cook's absence and occasional site-to-site food transport.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school level reading and writing skills.
• At least 6 months’ experience in the food services field.
• General knowledge of cooking and basic nutrition.
• Ability to work as a flexible team member.
• Ability to communicate with children and parents.
• Willingness to transport food between sites when needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation and service of meals.
• Follow sanitation and safety procedures in meal production.
• Assist in recordkeeping and compiling reports.
• Assist in menu planning as assigned.
• Assist in nutrition education activities with teaching staff and children.
• Prepare meals in the absence of the cook.
• Kitchen clean-up and equipment washing.
• Assist with transporting food between sites as needed.
