Job summary

Child Development in California seeks an assistant cook to support the kitchen team. Under supervision, you will help prepare and serve meals, uphold sanitation standards, and assist with menu planning to meet program needs.

The role requires at least a high school education, six months in food services, and the ability to work with children and families. English literacy and physical ability to lift and move items are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school level reading and writing skills.
• Minimum of six (6) months' experience in the food services field.
• General knowledge of the principles of cooking and basic nutrition.
• Ability to work as a flexible team member.
• Ability to effectively communicate and work with children and parents.
• Ability to speak, read, and write the English language.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and service of appetizing and appealing meals.
• Perform meal production duties according to set sanitation and safety procedures.
• Assist in recordkeeping and compiling reports as assigned.
• Assist in menu planning as assigned.
• Assist in the implementation of nutrition education activities in cooperation with the teaching staff and participate as needed with the children.
• Prepare meals in the absence of the cook.
• Perform kitchen clean-up and cooking equipment washing.
• Assist with transporting food from one site to another, when necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.
