Job summary

Glacier Fish Company is seeking an Assistant Cook aboard an Alaska-based processing vessel in the Bering Sea. The role involves preparing family-style meals, maintaining sanitation, and supporting the Head Cook.

Candidates should have a background as a cook on fishing vessels or cruise ships and be fluent in English. The position operates on a 24/7 schedule with a 200-foot vessel and 40 crewmembers; post-offer drug test and background checks apply.

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ experience as a cook on a fishing vessel or cruise ship.
• Highly proficient in baking and cooking for 50+ people.
• Basic understanding of laws and regulations and how/when they may apply.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• All candidates subject to post offer pre-employment drug test, medical and background screen.

Responsibilities

• Prepares meals for the crew daily using kitchen equipment and supplies stored in dry storage, refrigerators and frozen storage areas.
• Cooks food in quantities according to menu and number of crew to be served.
• Prepares breakfast and midnight meals on a daily basis.
• Bakes breads and desserts.
• Plans menus with Head Cook to best utilize inventory.
• Assists with inventory and ordering as requested by Head Cook.
• Assist in loading and unloading of food and other supplies into various storage areas located on various levels of the vessel.
• Cleans kitchen area, equipment and tools after each meal to sanitation standards.

Assistant Cook works aboard an at-sea processing vessel of the coast of Alaska in the Bering Sea, Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Alaska and Aleutian Islands.

This position prepares family style meals, cleans and maintains a 200 foot vessel with 40 crewmembers, that works on a 24/7 schedule.

Requirements

• All candidates subject to a post offer pre-employment drug test, medical and background screen.

Benefits

• Company travel policy agreement: Successful completion of a 65 day contract grants eligibility for airfare/hotel expenses, between the vessel and Seattle, to be paid by the company. Each fishing trip averages 12-18 days and can be more or less dependent on fishing conditions.
