Legacy Search Advisors is seeking an Assistant Controller in the Baltimore area who will own financial reporting and accounting oversight for two growing real estate business lines. You will work closely with the Director of Property Accounting, oversee the accounting team, and ensure GAAP compliance across multiple properties.

The role emphasizes leadership, process improvement, and the ability to scale accounting operations as the portfolio grows, with a strong foundation in public accounting

A growing, well-established real estate investment and development company in Baltimore is looking for an Assistant Controller to join its accounting leadership team.

Here's what makes this opportunity different: The company is specifically interested in Audit Managers and Senior Managers coming directly out of public accounting. You do not need to have worked in property accounting to be considered.

If you've built a strong foundation in financial reporting, GAAP, reviewing financial statements, managing engagements, and developing staff, this could be the opportunity to put that experience to work in a growing real estate organization.

The Opportunity:

You'll work closely with the Director of Property Accounting and take ownership of financial reporting and accounting oversight for two growing areas of the business:

• Mixed-Use Real Estate: Oversee the accounting and reporting for residential components of mixed-use properties, working with third-party property management companies and reviewing their monthly financial packages.
• Third-Party Property Management: Help oversee financial reporting and accounting operations for an expanding portfolio of properties managed on behalf of outside owners.

This is a role focused on financial oversight, problem-solving, and leadership, with the opportunity to gain meaningful exposure to a growing real estate platform.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Review monthly financial statements, reconciliations, and reporting packages for accuracy and completeness.
• Evaluate financial results, investigate discrepancies, and identify opportunities to improve processes and controls.
• Oversee accounting activities and help guide and develop accounting team members.
• Partner with internal stakeholders and external property management teams.
• Ensure financial reporting follows GAAP and company accounting policies.
• Support reporting improvements and help the accounting function scale alongside the business.

What We're Looking For:

• Strong background in public accounting, ideally at the Audit Manager or Senior Manager level.
• Solid technical accounting knowledge, including GAAP, financial statements, reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Experience reviewing work, managing engagements, and supervising or mentoring staff.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the confidence to identify and resolve accounting issues.
• CPA preferred.
• Real estate, partnership, REIT, or property management client exposure is a plus, not a requirement.

Experienced industry accounting professionals with relevant real estate experience are also encouraged to apply.
