Job summary

MHW Search partners with a Houston multifamily investment firm seeking an Assistant Controller to oversee core financial operations across a fast-growing, multi-entity environment. You will report to the executive finance team and help maintain financial integrity while refining reporting systems for active real estate and specialty trades projects.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with emphasis on commercial construction or real estate operations.
Experience in ground-up construction or major capital expenditure accounting, including construction draws and lien waivers.
Strong job costing and WIP tracking capabilities.
GAAP compliance and full-cycle accounting expertise.

Responsibilities

Lead month-end and year-end close procedures and produce variance reports.
Manage job costing, WIP tracking, and profitability analytics for multi-unit projects.
Supervise GL, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow forecasting.
Establish internal controls and coordinate audits/tax with external partners.
Collaborate with operations and project managers to optimize cost allocation and drive automation.
