Job summary

Paylocity in Denver, CO seeks an Assistant Controller to support the VP, Accounting in managing oil & gas accounting operations, the close cycle, and reporting in compliance with GAAP and ONRR regulations.

This role leads operational and revenue accounting, supervises staff, drives process improvements, and collaborates with operations, land, and production teams on timely, accurate financial information and internal controls.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Oil & Gas accounting experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
• CPA preferred.
• Strong revenue and regulatory accounting background with ONRR entities.
• Strong understanding of operational accounting, JIB, and revenue accounting processes.
• Knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and COPAS procedures.

Responsibilities

• Oversees day-to-day accounting operations including operational accounting, JIB, and revenue accounting.
• Assist monthly close processes including reconciliations, accruals, account analysis, and variance reviews.
• Assists in preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Ensures accounting records are maintained in accordance with GAAP, state and federal (ONRR) requirements and Company policies.
• Reviews accounting transactions and reconciliations for accuracy and completeness.
• Supervises and develops accounting personnel across assigned functional areas.
• Supports implementation and maintenance of internal controls and accounting procedures.
• Coordinates with operations, land, production, and corporate teams to ensure accurate and timely accounting information.
• Participates in system implementations, upgrades, and process improvement initiatives.
• Helps develop and maintain accounting policies and procedural documentation.
• Supports special projects, acquisitions, and integration activities as needed.
• Assists the VP, Accounting with technical accounting matters and financial analysis.

Reports to: VP, Accounting

Responsible for assisting the VP, Accounting in the management and execution of the Company's accounting operations, financial close, and reporting activities. The Assistant Controller will directly oversee operational accounting, joint interest billing (JIB), and revenue accounting functions while ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and compliance with Company policies and accounting standards.

This role will serve as a key leader within the accounting organization and provide hands‑on support for accounting operations, process improvement initiatives, and staff development.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

• 10+ years of Oil & Gas accounting experience
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required
• CPA preferred
• Strong revenue and regulatory accounting background with state and federal (ONRR) entities with an emphasis on evaluating risk management
• Strong understanding of operational accounting, JIB, and revenue accounting processes
• Knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and COPAS procedures
