Job summary

Opportune LP in Houston seeks an Assistant Controller to join the Financial Reporting team. You will oversee client activity, deliver financial information to multiple clients, and serve as the primary point of contact for reporting matters.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA, and at least eight years of upstream oil & gas experience. Public accounting is strongly preferred, and BOLO software experience is a plus.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist in supervision of internal financial reporting staff.
• Develop and maintain lease operating statements, financial statements, and footnotes.
• Provide training and support on financial and industry reporting standards.
• Identify and resolve client technical accounting matters.
• Perform complex accounting calculations (DD&A, asset retirement obligations, etc.).
• Respond to ad-hoc client reporting requests.
• Maintain library on system procedures and processes.
• Serve as liaison on audits (financial, joint venture, royalty).
• Assist with new client set up.
• Coordinate with AP/JIB, Revenue, and Treasury to close month-end on time.

Job description

The Assistant Controller will serve as a key member of the Financial Reporting team and will be responsible for oversight of client activity, delivery of financial information to multiple clients and the primary point of contact. This position is in our Houston office with responsibilities including, but not limited to, the following:

• Assist in supervision of internal financial reporting staff
• Develop, maintain and provide lease operating statements, financial statements including preparation of applicable footnotes, and other financial reports as defined, and on a closing schedule set by each client
• Provide training and technical support to client and financial reporting staff on matters relating to financial and industry reporting standards
• Identification and resolution of client technical accounting matters
• Perform various complex accounting calculations such as DD&A, reversionary interest payout, asset retirement obligations etc.
• Answer ad-hoc client reporting requests
• Maintain library on system procedures and processes
• Serve as client’s liaison on financial, joint venture and royalty audits
• Assist with new client set up
• Communicate with and help other departments (AP/JIB, Revenue, and Treasury) to resolve open issues and ensure timely month end close

Qualifications:

• This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Candidates must have a minimum of eight (8) years’ experience.
• Candidates must have upstream oil & gas experience
• An active CPA is required.
• Public accounting experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience with BOLO software is preferred.
• Must have strong professional presence and effective verbal/written communication.
• Exceptional time-management, planning and administrative skills are required.
