Job summary

Merlin Labs seeks an Assistant Controller to lead accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance for a publicly traded defense contractor. You will manage government contract accounting, SEС reporting obligations, and liaise with external auditors, with a focus on FAR/DFARS/CAS.

You will direct month-end close, equity administration, and ERP systems, while ensuring SOX compliance and ASC 606 recognition for long-term contracts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
• CPA license active and in good standing.
• Minimum 7 years progressive accounting experience; 3+ years in defense/government contracting.
• FAR, DFARS, CAS, and DCAA audit processes familiarity.
• Strong U.S. GAAP knowledge, SEC reporting, and SOX compliance.
• ASC 606 revenue recognition for long-term government contracts.
• ERP exposure incl. Deltek Costpoint or similar government ERP.

Responsibilities

• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with accurate journal entries and reconciliations.
• Lead cost accounting and overhead rate calculations per CAS and FAR.
• Supervise revenue recognition under ASC 606 for long-term contracts.
• Coordinate with auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits.
• Manage equity compensation accounting and disclosures for SEC filings.
• Partner with Finance, Contracts, Legal, and HR to ensure project-level reporting and controls.
