Job summary

CliftonLarsonAllen is seeking an Assistant Controller for our SLG CAAS Practice in Connecticut. The role supports client accounting services across multiple clients, delivering accounting, advisory, and project management expertise.

You will prepare financial statements, advise on best practices, and foster opportunities for clients and communities. Connecticut Government experience is preferred, with strong GAAP knowledge and proficiency in major accounting software.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of accounting/financial experience.
• Connecticut Government experience strongly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree required; related experience may substitute.
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
• Experience with MUNIX encouraged.
• Proficient in listed accounting software (QuickBooks, Intacct, Great Plains, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Perform Assistant Controller functions for client accounting services team.
• Act as consultant/advisor on accounting and finance engagements.
• Provide project management across multiple clients and deadlines.
• Prepare and analyze client financial statements with recommendations.
• Develop opportunities for clients and communities.
• Attend industry events and training to stay current.
• Maintain knowledge of policies, directives, and accounting standards.

About the role:

CLA is looking to hire an Assistant Controller for our SLG Client Accounting and Advisory Service (CAAS) Practice in Connecticut. Our CAAS service helps our clients transform their business with a collaborative approach that allows them to seamlessly mitigate risk, overcome challenges, meet deadlines, and identify personnel to help them with their workforce needs. Opportunities are available in our West Hartford and Shelton locations.

As an Assistant Controller, you will:

• Perform Assistant Controller functions as part of the client's accounting services team and manage these functions for your clients.
• Act as a consultant and advisor to your clients on best practices for accounting and finance-related engagements.
• Provide project management expertise by managing multiple clients, work, and deadlines.
• Prepare and analyze client financial statements and make recommendations.
• Foster and build opportunities for our clients, communities, and people.
• Become an industry professional and attend industry-leading events and training.
• Maintain knowledge of the client's organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.

What you will need:

• 6 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience required.
• Experience in Connecticut Government is strongly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree.
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP
• MUNIX experience strongly preferred
• Proficiency in accounting software, e.g. QuickBooks, Intacct, Great Plains, Yardi, MRI, Timberline, Sage, Foundations, Xero, Peoplesoft
