Job summary

CLA (CliftonLarsonAllen) is seeking a Controller for our Nonprofit Client Accounting and Advisory Services (CAAS) practice in Connecticut. Opportunities are available in our West Hartford and Shelton locations.

The role involves serving as Controller for designated nonprofit clients and advising on accounting best practices. Qualified candidates have six years of accounting/finance experience, a bachelor’s degree, and public nonprofit experience is preferred.

About the role

CAAS service helps our clients transform their Business with a collaborative approach that allows them to seamlessly mitigate risk, overcome challenges, meet deadlines, and identify personnel to help them with their workforce needs.

CLA is looking to hire a Controller for our Nonprofit Client Accounting and Advisory Services (CAAS) practice in Connecticut. Opportunities are available in our West Hartford and Shelton locations.

As a Controller, you will:
  • Act as the Controller for the designated clients you service.
  • Take on the role of consultant and advisor to your clients on best practices for accounting and finance-related engagements.
  • Provide project management expertise by managing multiple clients, work, and deadlines.
  • Prepare and analyze client financial statements and make recommendations.
  • Foster and build opportunities and attend industry-leading events and trainings.
  • Maintain knowledge of the client’s organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
  • Advise management on short-term and long term-financial objectives, policies, and actions.
What you will need:
  • Six years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience in Nonprofit is highly preferred.
  • CPA certification is preferred but not required.
  • Prior project management and client management experience preferred but not required.
