Job summary

ENSTAR Natural Gas seeks an experienced accounting leader to manage gas accounting, GL cost recording, and tax provisions in Alaska. You will support rate cases, prepare internal and TSU financial reports, and collaborate with auditors to strengthen internal controls.

A CPA is preferred, with 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience and 3–5 years in leadership. You will contribute to accurate GAAP reporting, mentor staff, and stay current with accounting standards while supporting

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field, or equivalent.
• 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible work experience.
• CPA certification preferred.
• Minimum 3 to 5 years of leadership experience.
• Experience preparing financial reports in accordance with GAAP.

Responsibilities

• Manage ongoing gas accounting functions, including high-level calculations and recording costs to the general ledger.
• Support the filing of GCA and rate cases.
• Prepare income tax provisions and schedules; coordinate with TSU tax consultant as needed.
• Prepare financial reports for internal use and TSU.
• Prepare account reconciliations and investigate issues with staff.
• Coordinate with internal and external auditors and implement audit recommendations.
• Maintain internal controls and look for process improvements.
• Stay updated on professional knowledge through workshops and publications.
• Provide accounting research for GAAP compliance.

Job description

What You Will Do:

• Manage ongoing gas accounting functions, including the performance of high-level calculations and analysis and recording of costs to the general ledger.
• Provide support for the filing of GCA and rate cases.
• Manage and assist in preparing income tax provisions and schedules. Work with TriSummit Utilities (TSU) income tax consultant when needed.
• Prepare financial reports for internal use and TSU.
• Prepare account reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting. Work with staff to research and correct any reconciliation items.
• Work with internal and external auditors to provide information and answer questions. Review results of audits and make recommendations regarding implementation of changes.
• Assist in establishing and maintaining internal controls. Ensure ENSTAR's internal control procedures and financial processes are followed. Periodically review internal controls and financial processes for improvement.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.
• Serve as key resource for technical accounting research. Research accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.

What You Will Bring:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible work experience.
• Certified Public Accounting (CPA) preferred.
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of leadership experience.
• Experience preparing financial reports in accordance with GAAP.

Preferred skills and qualifications:

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and organizational abilities.
• Collaborative and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
• Good working knowledge of various personal computer business software applications presently used by ENSTAR. Ability to learn new systems or software packages as necessary.
