Job description

About the Role

The Assistant Controller is a key financial leader responsible for partnering with the VP, Financial Operations & Controller, to oversee accounting operations, technical accounting, financial reporting, and other related functions. This is a senior accounting leadership role, with leveling at the Senior Manager or Director commensurate with the individual's experience, scope of expertise, and demonstrated leadership. In this role, you will set direction, improve key processes, lead through others, and ensure the company's operations are efficient, audit-ready, and aligned with business strategy.

This role will own the technical accounting and reporting governance framework globally—including revenue recognition, leases, equity compensation, impairments, business combinations, strategic transactions, new products, non-standard commercial arrangements, and emerging standards—while supporting Finance, Legal, Tax, People, Sales Operations, executive leadership, external auditors, and outside advisors.

The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise alongside a passion for people development, process improvement, and innovation. You'll help scale the accounting organization by developing talent, strengthening controls, improving close and reporting discipline, and championing practical AI and automation to build a finance function that is fast, accurate, and built for growth.

What You’ll Do
  • Own the company's technical accounting function—leading U.S. GAAP research, policy development, and audit-ready documentation—while setting the financial reporting roadmap and ensuring technical conclusions are sound, scalable, and aligned with business strategy.
  • Lead core accounting operations end-to-end, including payroll accounting, order-to-cash, close governance, and reconciliations—ensuring accuracy, strong controls, and continuous acceleration of cycle time.
  • Own international accounting and tax compliance operations—spanning multi-currency consolidation, intercompany eliminations, statutory reporting, and domestic and cross-border tax filings—while serving as a key liaison to external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Build, coach, and develop a high-performing accounting team—establishing clear standards, scalable playbooks, and a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive accounting transformation through process standardization, automation, and responsible AI adoption—building a faster, more scalable finance function without sacrificing controls or auditability.
  • Establish and continuously strengthen the internal controls environment—designing, documenting, and maintaining SOPs, control frameworks, and process standards across accounting operations—ensuring controls are audit-ready, scalable, and evolve alongside business growth and emerging risk areas.
  • Drive SOX readiness through control design, scoping, and deficiency remediation, while championing SOP adoption across the team through structured training, clear ownership, and a culture of continuous improvement.
At a Minimum, We’d Like You to Have
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant leadership experience across technical accounting, financial reporting, controls, and operational accounting
  • CPA license (required) with public accounting experience, preferably Big 4 or national firm, with additional experience in a technology, SaaS, or similarly complex business environment
  • Deep technical accounting expertise and a demonstrated track record of translating complex U.S. GAAP guidance into practical, scalable business applications
  • Proven experience preparing, reviewing, and approving technical accounting memos, accounting policies, audit support, reporting deliverables, and executive-level accounting conclusions
  • Excellence in leading and developing team members, setting review standards, coaching technical judgment, and building repeatable operating practices across accounting or reporting functions
  • Hands‑on working knowledge of month‑end close, reconciliations, flux analysis, journal entry review, accruals, and intercompany activity—as well as direct experience implementing new tools and accounting, and tax compliance operations
  • Exceptional communication and cross‑functional influence skills, with the ability to explain technical accounting risks and recommendations clearly to finance and non‑finance leaders alike
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast‑paced environments where priorities shift and success requires strategic judgment, practical decision‑making, hands‑on execution, and disciplined follow‑through
  • A bias toward action and continuous improvement, with practical interest and judgment in using AI, automation, and systems‑enabled workflows to improve accounting quality, controls, and scalability
Ideally, You’ll Also Have
  • Experience in SaaS, software, marketplace, subscription, or high‑growth technology environments
  • Experience with ASC 606, equity‑based compensation, software capitalization, leases, impairments, business combinations, strategic transactions, and other complex technical accounting areas
  • Experience supporting IPO readiness, public‑company reporting standards, SOX readiness, scaled audit requirements, or finance transformation initiatives
  • Experience partnering with executive leadership, external auditors, outside advisors, and legal or tax stakeholders on complex accounting matters
  • Experience with NetSuite, Numeric, Anrok, Salesforce, SQL, BI tools, close automation, reporting automation, or similar accounting and reporting systems
  • Experience evaluating or implementing AI‑enabled finance and accounting tools and a track record of building practical processes, playbooks, policies, and team routines that balance speed, accuracy, controls, auditability, and business usability
