82i is building a new kind of finance firm designed to accelerate people into leadership roles. Our talent model develops people in three stages: CFO → Operator → Investor.
We work hands‑on inside founder‑led companies, helping them build reliable financial infrastructure, operate with discipline, and make better decisions. Our goal isn’t just to deliver excellent client work — it’s to develop our team into strong future finance leaders and operators.
Who You Are
You’re someone who:
- Has owned the accounting function — not just supported it — and is ready to lead across multiple companies
- Thrives when working directly with founders and leadership to solve real business problems
- Brings structure to ambiguous environments and raises the bar on financial rigor
- Wants to grow into a Controller or CFO role and is intentional about that path
- Values developing, mentoring, and pulling other people up as you grow
The Opportunity
As an Assistant Controller at 82i, you are the operational backbone of great finance organizations.
You will work directly under an Accounting+ Lead Controller who will provide hands‑on mentorship and help you develop the technical skills, client exposure, and leadership experience needed to grow into a Controller role.
You’ve spent years building your accounting foundation. In this role, you will step into ownership and leadership:
- Lead the month‑end close process and take full accountability for the numbers
- Design and enforce scalable accounting processes, controls, and policies
- Deliver reliable, decision‑ready financial reporting to leadership and clients
- Identify technical accounting issues and drive them to resolution
- Review the work of Staff and Senior Accountants and develop the people around you
- Operate as a trusted partner to Controllers, CFOs, and founders
This is not a support role. This is an ownership role.
What You’ll Do
You’ll be embedded inside growing companies, leading accounting operations and partnering with Controllers, CFOs, and Engagement Managers to build infrastructure that scales.
- Own the month‑end close — including review of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
- Maintain and oversee the integrity of the general ledger across entities
- Manage AP, AR, payroll, and other core accounting functions — including reviewing and directing team output
- Own cash flow visibility and support treasury management
- Ensure GAAP compliance and develop client‑specific accounting policies
- Design, implement, and document internal controls
- Lead audit preparation and serve as a primary contact for external auditors and tax advisors
- Perform technical accounting research and document conclusions (revenue recognition, leases, equity, etc.)
- Support multi‑entity consolidations where applicable
- Partner with Controllers and EMs to ensure financial data drives planning and decision‑making
Your job is not just to close the books. Your job is to ensure leadership can trust the numbers — and to build the team and systems that make that possible.
A Deliberate Growth Path
At 82i:
- Growth is capability-based, not tenure‑based
- Responsibility expands as quickly as your judgment and reliability grow
- You will gain exposure to multiple companies, industries, and systems
- High performers move into Controller roles, broader client leadership, and eventually CFO‑track responsibilities
Our Mission
Make entrepreneurship easier by aligning expertise, incentives, and capital around long‑term value creation.
