Overview

Aduro Advisors is looking for bright and talented individuals to join our team working to support top-tier clients in the Venture Capital & Private Equity space. The Assistant Controller has a dynamic role comprised of managing client relationships, executing on our mission of practical technical excellence, and playing a pivotal role in the growth and development of their team.

The salary range for the Assistant Controller role is $90,000 - $120,000 per year. Salary range for this role is determined based on current market data and relevant experience level. Employees in the Assistant Controller role are eligible to participate in the Aduro Bonus Program.

Type of work you will do
  • Act as the main point of contact for multiple clients, including managing workflow and coordination of work amongst Aduro team members (e.g., Senior Controller or Controller, Accounting Managers, Staff Accountants, and Management Company Team members).
  • Set up and run recurring client check-in calls to discuss current status, open items, and upcoming operational needs.
  • Respond to ad-hoc client requests in a thoughtful and professional manner consistent with Aduro processes and industry best practices.
  • Reconcile banking transactions, prepare journal entries, and maintain the general ledger in accordance with US GAAP in the accounting system (Xero), including oversight of these activities performed by junior team members.
  • Drive month-end close processes and raise follow-up questions to the Senior Controller, Controller, or client as appropriate.
  • Reconcile and maintain investment information for all fund investments.
  • Prepare and/or review quarterly financial statements including partners’ capital allocations.
  • Utilize proprietary investment management database (FundPanel) to send investor correspondence including capital contributions, distributions, and quarterly reporting; update FundPanel for fund activity and investments.
  • Coordinate the preparation of audit materials and manage year-end financial statement audits and tax work.
  • Use a risk-based approach to effectively delegate tasks to junior team members and act as a reviewer of their work.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to assist the Senior Controller and/or Controller and gain exposure to more complex or higher risk tasks.
  • Take ownership of your own growth and development by identifying training needs and using available resources at Aduro; provide coaching and guidance to junior team members.
Requirements
  • Approximately 3-5 years of experience in the alternative asset industry; Venture Capital and/or Private Equity experience is preferred.
  • In-depth understanding of US GAAP and partnership accounting including complex allocation waterfalls.
  • Experience in a client-facing role leading engagements on multiple clients.
  • Resourceful, driven, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and attention to detail.
  • Passion for mentoring and coaching team members.
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and help the team when needed.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems such as Xero or QuickBooks.
