Job summary

StevenDouglas seeks an Assistant Controller to lead the accounting function during a growth phase. The role provides visibility into the full organization and opportunities to shape processes, governance, and AI-enabled automation across close cycles.

The candidate will manage multi-entity accounting, ensure US GAAP compliance, and mentor a growing team while partnering with leadership on strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

• CPA or Active CPA Candidate required.
• Minimum 6–15 years of progressive corporate accounting experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Public accounting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own full-cycle accounting operations including monthly close, financial reporting, and intercompany eliminations.
• Prepare and sign off on monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with narratives.
• Ensure compliance with US GAAP and related standards.
• Consolidate multi-entity results and manage foreign currency translations.
• Produce reporting packages for executives, lenders, and investors.
• Oversee journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and period-end adjustments.
• Develop and maintain COA and accounting policies.
• Drive close-cycle efficiency and AI-enabled automation in accounting processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own the full cycle accounting operations, including monthly close, financial reporting, quarterly/annual close cycles, AP, AR, and serve as a leader and mentor to the team.
• Assume full accountability for the preparation and sign-off of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, along with all related schedules and narrative commentary.
• Keep all financial reporting in strict compliance with U.S. GAAP and relevant standards.
• Consolidate results across multiple legal entities, handling intercompany eliminations and foreign currency translation with precision.
• Assemble reporting packages for executive leadership, board members, lenders, and investors that communicate performance clearly and completely.
• Sign off on journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, accrual calculations, and period-end adjustments.
• Keep the chart of accounts and underlying accounting policy documentation current and well-organized.
• Establish and report on close-cycle benchmarks; set and pursue measurable targets for days-to-close reduction.
• Implement and oversee all processes and procedures as the company continues to scale.
• Put AI and automation to work across the accounting function: matching, classification, flux review, document processing, and close-task acceleration. Take personal accountability for the integrity of every automated output.
• Set clear governance standards for AI use within accounting, covering auditability, data handling, human review requirements, and validation documentation.
• Provide day-to-day direction, coaching, and performance feedback to the accounting team.

Background Qualifications:

• CPA or Active CPA Candidate
• 6-15 years of progressive, hands-on corporate accounting experience with a track record of increasing responsibility, including a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
• Prior public accounting experience preferred
• Must have experience in a fast-paced complex multi-entity environment
• International experience preferred, not required
