As a key member of the Finance team, the Assistant Controller is responsible for oversight of finance, accounting and reporting activities. The Assistant Controller is hands-on, with a successful track record in setting & executing priorities, providing financial support and building strong relationships with those served.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

  • Assist and support the Controller and VP of Finance with Financial Planning and Analysis for multiple entities to include the following:
  • Manage general accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Work closely with operations and administrative departments to optimize financial performance.
  • Preparation of monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Engage in cash and banking oversight and management.
  • Formalize the analysis and review of GL accounts.
  • Evaluate current internal controls and recommend revisions as required.
  • Ensure state fuel tax payments are paid timely.
  • Ensure compliance with all state sales and use taxes.
  • Maintain awareness and knowledge of best practice systems for corporate accounting and management in general.
  • Maintain supportive relationships with all third-party administrators.
  • Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with tax at a federal and state level.
  • Support and facilitate organizational changes, continuous improvement, and communication.
  • Establish and foster relationships with management and all team members that will enable the Finance function to be viewed as an integral part of the business.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated Accounting and/or Payroll experience.

  • Decisive at making decisions and operates at a strategic level.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of MS Office Suite.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting required.
  • 2-3 years’ experience of public accounting experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Activity Requirements: Able to stand, walk, sit, talk/hear, push/pull, bend/stoop, crouch/kneel taste/smell, balance, twist/reach, carry, grasp with hands, squat and use a keyboard.
  • Lifting Requirements: Push, lift, pull and hold up to 25 pounds regularly; up to 50 pounds on occasion.
  • Hearing Requirements: Able to hear alarms, communication equipment & verbal instructions.
  • Cognitive Requirements: Complex reading, writing, math & speech skills. Must be able to speak, read, write & understand the English language. Requires the ability to complete clerical and analytical tasks, function under stress, memorize information and make independent decisions.
  • Vision Requirements: General vision requirements including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Movement Requirements: Able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities. Able to grasp and utilize manual dexterity including hand/finger coordination. Periods of prolonged sitting may be required on occasion.
  • Repetitive Motion(s): Regularly & repetitively use both feet and both hands.
  • Environmental Factors: General, fast-paced office environment to include numerous distractions like others talking, office equipment noise and phones ringing.
