Job description

The Metropolitan Club is a prestigious private social club located in San Francisco, offering exceptional dining, social, and recreational experiences to our distinguished members. With a rich tradition of excellence, we are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Assistant Controller to join our Finance team.

Position Overview

The Assistant Controller will play a vital role in maintaining the financial integrity of the Metropolitan Club by supporting the Controller in managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and producing accurate financial reports. This position requires a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills and experience in hospitality or club accounting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all state and local compliance filings, including business licenses and alcohol permits
  • Manage employee benefits administration, including retirement plans, health insurance, and other benefit programs
  • Supervise the payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely processing of semi-monthly payroll
  • Prepare and file all required sales tax returns and employment tax filings
  • Maintain internal controls and accounting procedures in compliance with GAAP
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and other financial accounts
  • Assist with annual budget preparation and forecasting
  • Support the year-end audit process and work with external auditors
  • Supervise accounting staff, including accounts payable and receivable personnel
  • Provide financial analysis for special projects and capital improvements

Requirements : Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in hospitality or private club industry
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with point-of-sale systems and club management software preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Knowledge of hospitality or club operations a plus
