Job summary

CFS is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller in Orlando, FL to serve as the Controller's right hand in a high-growth construction firm. You will lead month-end close, financial reporting, and WIP/job costing, while driving scalable processes and internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong construction accounting experience is required.
• Prior experience managing, supervising, mentoring, or leading accounting professionals is required.
• Strong experience with month-end close, financial reporting, general ledger, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Experience with WIP schedules, overbillings, underbillings, job costing, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Experience supporting annual financial statement audits.
• Experience with construction ERP systems.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Partner closely with the Controller to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting.
• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process while ensuring deadlines and reporting requirements are met.
• Prepare and review financial statements, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Review work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, overbillings, underbillings, job costing, and other construction accounting activities.
• Support annual audits and serve as a key liaison with external auditors.
• Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and provide recommendations to leadership.
• Partner with Accounts Payable, Billing, Collections, and Operations to improve workflows and strengthen internal controls.
• Identify opportunities for automation, process improvements, and accounting efficiencies.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, acquisition support, and special projects as the organization grows.
• Provide leadership, coaching, and guidance across the accounting team while preparing to assume future supervisory responsibilities.
