Job summary

Hoxton Circle is hiring an Assistant Controller for an in-office role based in Edison, NJ or NYC. The position offers proximity to senior finance leadership and a clear pathway to a Controller role, with mentorship and a fast-growing project mix.

You will drive the monthly close, own reconciliations, and manage banking activities while supporting internal audits and external reporting. The role requires Big 4 or Top 10 audit background and GAAP/SOX experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of accounting experience with strong analytical capability.
• Public accounting audit/assurance experience from a Big 4 or Top 10 firm.
• Experience at a public company or highly controlled environment requiring GAAP, SOX, and reporting to parent.
• Experience with job costing and WIP reporting is a plus.
• Willingness to travel between NJ and NYC offices as needed.

Responsibilities

• Drive monthly close process components.
• Own account reconciliation for critical accounts with documented escalations.
• Manage banking activity, including payment file prep and release.
• Support internal audit and external reporting requirements.
• Improve reporting visibility across workpapers and system outputs.
• Collaborate with Accounting and Project Operations on daily issues.
• Tackle special projects from senior finance leadership as the business grows.

What the Role Involves

• Driving key components of the monthly close process
• Owning account reconciliation for critical accounts and escalating exceptions with clear documentation
• Managing banking activity, including payment file preparation and release
• Supporting internal audit and external reporting requirements
• Identifying opportunities to improve reporting visibility across workpapers and system outputs
• Partnering with the Accounting team and Project Operations on day-to-day accounting issues
• Taking on special projects from senior finance leadership as the business grows
• 5+ years of accounting experience with strong analytical capability
• Public accounting audit/assurance experience from a Big 4 or Top 10 firm
• Experience at a public company or highly controlled environment that requred GAAP compliance, SOX awareness, reporting to parent company, etc.
