Job summary

ASAHI BEER USA | OCTOPI BREWING is seeking an Assistant Controller to support the Controller in managing accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, and compliance. You will help ensure the financial close is accurate and on time, strengthen processes, and lead the accounting team.

This full-time role offers ownership over monthly and annual closes, development opportunities, and a seat at high-impact transformation projects as we grow in Madison, Wisconsin.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience with financial statement preparation and month-end close processes.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
• Nice to have supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
• Help prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and management reports that inform business decisions.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures to meet regulatory, audit, and governance standards.
• Oversee general accounting activities — general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, journal entries, and balance sheet reviews.
• Lead, develop, and support accounting team members through work review, training, coaching, and performance management.
• Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes, systems, and reporting capabilities.
• Partner on high-impact transformation projects.

Founded in 2014 as a Wisconsin contract brewery, Octopi Brewing has spent over a decade brewing and packaging beer, seltzers, RTDs, and sodas for clients nationwide. In 2024, Asahi — brewers of Asahi Super Dry — acquired Octopi, making us the U.S. production home of Super Dry. Today, our 250+ person team of beverage industry pros keeps that same local, quality-first spirit alive at a state-of-the‑art facility. THE OPPORTUNITY

We're looking for an Assistant Controller to support our Controller in managing accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, and compliance. You'll help ensure our financial close is accurate and on time, strengthen the processes behind it, and lead and develop the accounting team members who make it happen.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close, ensuring accurate and timely reporting in line with company policy and accounting standards
• Help prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and management reports that inform business decisions
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures to meet regulatory, audit, and governance standards
• Oversee general accounting activities — general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, journal entries, and balance sheet reviews

WHAT YOU BRING

Must-haves:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Experience with financial statement preparation and month-end close processes
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with high attention to detail and accuracy
