Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based environments.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and financial reporting experience.
• Experience with job cost accounting, WIP, and percent-of-completion.
• Experience with Vista by Viewpoint ERP is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations with the Controller.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close and reporting.
• Review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Assist with financial statements, management reporting, and analysis.
• Monitor general ledger activity and investigate unusual balances.
• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, payroll, and other transactional accounting.
• Oversee and analyze job cost accounting, including project costs, revenue, billing, and profitability.
• Collaborate with project management to investigate job cost variances and improve visibility.
• Assist with WIP reporting and percentage-of-completion forecasting.
• Maintain internal controls and improve accounting processes.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and other financial planning activities.
• Assist with audits, tax compliance, and third-party reporting.
• Utilize Vista by Viewpoint and other systems to maintain project data.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to accounting staff.
• Identify opportunities to streamline reporting and efficiency.
• Perform other accounting and finance responsibilities as needed.

The Assistant Controller will play a key role in supporting the Controller, overseeing core accounting functions, strengthening financial processes, and ensuring accurate and timely reporting.

What You'll Do

• Partner with the Controller to oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations.


• Support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.


• Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.


• Assist with preparation and analysis of financial statements and management reporting.


• Monitor general ledger activity and investigate unusual or inconsistent balances.


• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, payroll accounting, and other transactional accounting functions.

• Perform other accounting and finance responsibilities as needed.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.


• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within construction, mechanical contracting, engineering, manufacturing, or another project-based environment.


• Strong understanding of GAAP, financial statements, month-end close, and general ledger accounting.


• Experience with job cost accounting, WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion, and project profitability strongly preferred.


• Experience with Vista by Viewpoint or a comparable construction ERP is highly desirable.


• Strong Excel skills and demonstrated ability to analyze financial data.


• Experience supervising, mentoring, or providing direction to accounting team members.


• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.


• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to see both the big picture and the finer points.


• Ability to communicate effectively with accounting, operations, project management, and executive leadership.


• Demonstrated ability to take ownership, meet deadlines, and operate effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
