Job summary

Advance Concrete, Garner, NC, is seeking an experienced Controller to partner with the CAO and lead a modernized, scalable accounting operation across multiple entities. You will own month-end close, job cost, cash forecasting, and internal controls in a hands-on construction environment.

Responsibilities include consolidating multi-company closes, maintaining intercompany reconciliations, and driving process improvements using Foundation tools.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • CPA or CMA is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Own and coordinate month-end close across multiple operating companies.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, prepaids, amortizations, and other closing adjustments.
  • Timely completion of balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate intercompany accounting and reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for CAO review.
  • Research unusual activity and resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Identify trends, variances, and financial issues requiring management attention.
  • Maintain the integrity of job cost accounting.
  • Prepare and review WIP schedules.
  • Monitor project profitability, margins, costs, and billing activity.
  • Review under/over billings and revenue recognition.
  • Identify unusual job cost activity and work with operations to resolve issues.
  • Support analysis of company, division, and project performance.
  • Prepare weekly cash position and cash forecast reporting.
  • Monitor upcoming cash requirements and significant inflows and outflows.
  • Maintain oversight of bank reconciliations and banking activity.
  • Identify cash flow concerns and communicate them proactively.
  • Partner with the CAO on working capital improvement initiatives.
  • Provide oversight and review of AP processing.
  • Ensure invoices have appropriate documentation, coding, and approvals.
  • Review proposed payment batches and investigate unusual or duplicate activity.
  • Review AP reconciliations and resolve complex vendor issues.
  • Work closely with AR to ensure accurate month-end reporting and reconciliations.
  • Develop working knowledge of AP, AR, cash application, banking, and payroll processes to provide oversight, troubleshooting, and backup when necessary.
  • Serve as backup for payroll processing when needed.
  • Strengthen segregation of duties and eliminate single points of failure.
  • Help maximize the capabilities of Foundation construction accounting software.
  • Identify opportunities to move manual and paper-based processes into Foundation.
  • Improve electronic document management, invoice imaging, approvals, and supporting documentation.
  • Identify unnecessary spreadsheets, duplicate data entry, and inefficient workflows.
  • Develop and maintain accounting SOPs.
  • Improve cross-training and backup procedures throughout the accounting function.
  • Partner with the CAO on accounting automation, process improvement, and systems initiatives.
  • Help build a more efficient, standardized, and scalable accounting environment.

About The Role

Advance Concrete is seeking an experienced, hands-on Controller to serve as the right hand to our Chief Accounting Officer and help lead the next phase of development for our accounting function.

Reporting directly to the CAO, the Controller will own the day-to-day accounting operation across multiple companies, with primary responsibility for month-end close, financial reporting, general ledger integrity, reconciliations, job cost accounting, WIP, cash forecasting, and accounting controls.

This is not simply a maintenance role.

We are actively working to modernize our accounting environment, maximize the capabilities of Foundation, reduce paper and manual processes, improve cross-training, and build a more efficient and scalable accounting organization.

We're looking for someone who is technically strong, curious about how transactions flow through the business, willing to roll up their sleeves when needed, and energized by making processes better.

What You’ll Do
Accounting & Month-End Close
  • Own and coordinate month-end close across multiple operating companies.

What We’re Looking For
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Previous Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar experience.
  • Strong month-end close and general ledger experience.
  • Construction accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of job costing and WIP accounting.Multi-company or multi-entity accounting experience preferred.
  • Hands‑on Foundation construction accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Foundation GL, AP, AR, job costing, payroll, and reporting is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, reconciliations, and internal controls.
  • Strong Excel and financial analysis skills.
  • Payroll knowledge sufficient to provide backup support.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • CPA or CMA is a plus, but not required.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: $100,000–$110,000, depending on experience
