Job summary

Assistant Controller – Consumer Goods Company | Near Bridgeport, Chicago

A growing consumer goods organization near Bridgeport is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join its leadership accounting team. This is a highly visible role offering strong exposure to executive leadership, technical accounting, consolidations, systems, and process improvement initiatives.

Compensation: $180,000–$210,000 + bonus + strong benefits package

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support core controllership functions including month-end close, consolidations, financial reporting, and record-to-report processes
• Partner directly with external auditors and support annual audit activities
• Assist with SEC reporting, SOX compliance, GAAP research, and internal controls initiatives
• Oversee areas including AP, cash management, budgeting support, and financial operations
• Serve as a key ERP and systems resource, helping drive process improvements and business-side system enhancements
• Support large-scale financial consolidations and reporting across multiple entities/business units
• Partner cross-functionally with finance, operations, and leadership teams to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
• 3–5+ years of public accounting experience required; Big 4 strongly preferred, will also consider strong mid-tier public accounting backgrounds
• Strong technical accounting foundation including SEC reporting, SOX, GAAP, audit support, and controllership responsibilities
• Experience working within large ERP environments such as SAP or Oracle
• Manufacturing or consumer products experience highly preferred
• CPA preferred
