Assistant Construction Superintendent 2

Department: Construction
Reports to: Construction Site Superintendent
Location: This position supports worksites across the Portland Metro area including Portland, East Portland, Gresham, Hillsboro, King City, and Lake Oswego.
Time Commitment: Full-time, Non-exempt
Level: E
Compensation: $25.74/hour to $31.37/hour; We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, generous paid time off, life insurance, paid family and medical leave, and more.

Who You Are: You are responsible for supporting the organization's home building goals. Your weekly duties include leading future homebuyers and volunteers in performing in-house construction activities, including site preparation, foundation systems, rough framing, window and door installation, weatherproofing, siding, painting, flooring installation, millwork installation, interior painting, and landscaping. You will interact with Habitat staff, volunteers, homebuyers, subcontractors, Habitat partners, and City inspectors.

Founded in 1981, we have built and repaired homes in partnership with over 3,000 people across the Portland region. We operate out of three offices, four brick and mortar stores, one warehouse, and numerous construction sites in Portland, Beaverton, Hillsboro, King City, Gresham, and Lake Oswego.

Your Responsibilities:

Volunteers and Partner Homeowners:

  • Lead Habitat Crew Leads and crews of volunteers in building homes.
  • Ensure appropriate safety practices at all times.
  • Teach needed skills to new volunteers.
  • Conduct regular quality control inspections.
  • Assist in the training of Crew Leads and volunteers.
  • Understand elements that contribute to successful volunteers and help ensure that volunteers have a consistently positive, encouraging environment.
  • Ensure that communication to volunteers and partner homeowners is respectful, accurate, and timely.
  • Assist in identifying volunteer jobs/needs not currently filled and satisfy needs with appropriate volunteers.

Construction:

  • Perform all hands-on construction tasks as directed.
  • Repair/redo any construction task performed below acceptable standards by volunteers.
  • Suggest potential advantageous building practices and material cost savings opportunities to management.
  • Assist in the supervision of all site preparation and layout.
  • Assist in the supervision of job sites on each designated workday and work to ensure construction is accomplished in accordance with approved permits and plans.
  • Assist in ensuring that Site safety inspections, Daily Log, Observations, Incidents, Quality and Safety Inspections are updated daily in Procore.
  • Assist in training volunteers and partner homeowners about construction tasks and appropriate safety measures.
  • Respond to homeowner warranty complaints and perform repairs.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Ability to effectively work with, manage, and lead volunteers.
  • Excel at multi-tasking various projects and deadlines; attention to detail a must.
  • Excellent oral communication skills; effective with diverse audiences.
  • 2+ years experience in the construction/contracting business, especially as a carpenter or framer.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Your Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Your workday will generally be located at an assigned construction site, but may vary based on your department's needs.
  • This position is very active and requires climbing ladders as well as considerable standing, bending, reaching, and kneeling in awkward and tiring positions during varying weather conditions.
  • Activities may include frequently lifting, moving, and/or loading items over 50 pounds with mechanical or co-worker assistance.

Your Work Schedule:

  • 40-hour work week, generally Monday - Friday or Tuesday - Saturday 7:30am-3:30pm.

Your Compensation: We aim to offer equitable pay and benefits. Your compensation will generally be between $25.74 per hour to $31.37 per hour. The full range for this position is $25.74 per hour to $37.33 per hour.
