Qualifications

• At least 2 years in Construction Safety on major sites.
• OSHA 10 certification required; OSHA 30 preferred.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.
• Proven leadership and communication skills.
• Physical ability to climb ladders up to 24 ft, stand and walk 8 hours.

Responsibilities

• Field safety oversight and hazard correction with contractor coordination.
• Audit fall protection and PPE daily; enforce compliance.
• Support pre-task planning, toolbox talks, incident response and safety documentation; review plans.
• Lead project safety kickoff and trade partner preconstruction meetings.
• Apply OSHA and CQSA Safety Manual; help update safety policies and procedures.
• Communicate clearly, identify hazards quickly, and act to prevent escalation.
• Maintain accountability for site safety and corrective actions.
• Build trust with subcontractors to uphold safety standards.

Job Description: The Assistant Construction Safety Manager serves as an on-site safety resource, conducting daily field oversight and supporting contractors in maintaining a safe, compliant work environment. This role reports to the on-site Construction Safety Manager.

WageStatus: Exempt (Ineligible for overtime)

Job Responsibilities:

• Field Safety Oversight & Hazard Correction: Conduct continuous field safety walks. Identify and correct hazards during these walks, communicating issues to contractors and seeing solutions through until completion. Report all findings, direction given, and issues to the Safety Manager.
• Fall Protection & PPE Compliance: Audit all fall protection on site daily, including guardrails, cable rails, leading edge protection, shaft openings, and controlled access zones. Enforce PPE compliance with all contractors. Report all findings, direction given, and issues to the Safety Manager.
• Contractor Support & Safety Planning: Support contractors in pre-task planning, toolbox talks, incident response, safety documentation, and corrective action follow-up. Review and approve Pre-Task Plans, Job Hazard Analyses, and high-risk work plans. Collaborate with project teams and trade partners to revise or strengthen controls.
• Project Start-Up & Contractor Meetings: Lead or assist Construction Safety Manager in leading project safety kickoff meetings and trade partner preconstruction meetings. Deliver clear, effective presentations reinforcing CQSA safety policies and expectations.
• Policy, Compliance & Communication: Apply working knowledge of OSHA, the CQSA Construction Safety Manual, and contract requirements to field execution. Contribute to the development and revision of project- and company-level safety policies and procedures. Always Maintain clear and regular communication with the on-site Safety Manager.
• Communicative and decisive: Clearly communicates, follows direction, and identifies hazards quickly enough to act before they escalated.
• Owner mentality: Treats site safety as personally accountable, seeing hazards and corrective actions through to resolution rather than handing them off.
• Vigilant and detail-oriented: Continuously scans jobsite conditions to catch issues before they become incidents.
• Collaborative safety partner: Builds trust with subcontractors so safety standards hold up whether or not someone's checking.

Requirements:
