Job summary

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Construction Manager in Memphis to support multiple transportation projects.

You will coordinate field activities and maintain clear communication among clients, inspectors, and engineers to keep work on schedule and in spec. The role requires a Civil Engineering or Construction Management degree (or equivalent experience) and involves developing QA programs, reviewing plans, and participating in progress meetings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management with two years of experience, or Technical school graduate with four years of experience.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license and required auto insurance.
  • Construction testing certifications (e.g., ESPC, hotmix, concrete, OSHA) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support Construction Managers across multiple transportation projects, coordinating field activities and maintaining communication between clients, inspectors, and engineers to keep work on schedule and to spec.
  • Determine labor requirements and dispatch workers to construction sites.
  • Attend weekly project progress meetings to discuss current and potential issues.
  • Ensure proper administration of project plans and documentation; maintain accurate progress records.
  • Respond to client suggestions and complaints promptly and drive resolution.
  • Perform testing procedures (soil/density, concrete, asphalt).
  • Assist in developing and implementing quality control programs.
  • Engage in ongoing self-education to keep up with industry trends and changes.
  • Perform duties in accordance with the company handbook.
