Assistant Construction Manager - Electric Utility Projects

Location: Glen Allen, VA
Job type: Long-Term Contract 2 years plus with possible Contract to Hire

Our client is seeking an Assistant Construction Manager for their team in Glen Allen, VA. This role involves a mix of field site visits and office work. A company truck will be provided, and if you're not local to Richmond, VA, you may be eligible for Per Diem to cover lodging.

The position is suited for individuals with Electric Utility Construction Manager / Project Manager experience, particularly those interested in Construction Support roles for Dominion Energy projects related to Transmission, Substation, Distribution, and Generation Interconnection. Candidates with a background as a Foreman, Journeyman Lineman, or Safety personnel in Electric Utility construction are also encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

1. Perform regular site visits to observe construction activities, progress, safety, quality, and environmental conditions, reporting findings to the PM team.
2. Coordinate with Dominion site Managers; this role does not involve direct management of craftspeople.
3. Identify potential scope gaps, constructability issues, and coordination challenges, proposing solutions and reporting findings.
4. Participate in project kickoff and construction meetings.
5. Support pre-construction sequencing and outage planning with the PMT and OCT.
6. Escort visitors and support site access during project scoping and planning.
7. Assist in pre-task hazard analyses for client-led site visits.
8. Provide weekly and monthly reports on construction progress, safety, quality, and environmental observations.
9. Assist in troubleshooting construction issues and ensure compliance with safety requirements.
10. Coordinate between project teams, contractors, and other stakeholders.
11. Participate in punch-list, verification, and pre-energization walkdowns.

Minimum Requirements

• 5+ years of Electrical T&D Field Construction Management experience, overseeing safety, quality, scope, cost, and schedule.
• Knowledge of Substation, Transmission line, Telecom, and System Protection construction and design.
• Understanding of safety and quality compliance standards.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proficient in computer applications including Microsoft Office and project databases.
• Self-motivated and independent.
