Job summary

The New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance seeks an experienced leader to serve as Assistant Insurance Commissioner, Office of Property and Casualty. Reporting to the Director of Insurance, the Assistant Commissioner, P&C directs actuarial analysis and oversight of rates, new products, policies, and forms in the property and casualty sector.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; substitutions allowed year-for-year for experience
• Eight years of administrative experience in insurance programs; four years in management
• Deep experience with property and casualty lines
• Experience overseeing actuaries and actuarial analysis
• Experience with new products and navigating policy considerations preferred
• Experience with government agencies a plus
• Strong manager able to supervise a team and develop staff
• Systems thinker able to manage large workflows and drive efficiency
• Curious and expansive thinker able to evaluate new policies holistically
• Excited about data and using it to inform decisions

Responsibilities

• Provide executive guidance and direction, and establish policy for the operation of multiple divisions
• Direct actuarial analysis and oversight of rates, products, forms in P&C
• Advise Commissioner and executive management; propose statutory/regulatory changes
• Represent the Department with NAIC and industry boards; engage with industry stakeholders
• Oversee budget, personnel and administrative functions of the Office; workforce development
