ASSISTANT COACH - WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (PART-TIME)
TRUMAN COLLEGE

Truman College's Athletic Department is looking for an Assistant Coach for the Women’s Basketball Team. This position is responsible for assisting the head coach with organizing the basketball program, conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student‑athletes in game strategies and techniques.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in recruiting student‑athletes for participation in intercollegiate athletics. Cooperate with the academic advisers to support the academic progress of the student‑athlete.
  • Assist players in reaching the highest athletic potential through athletic training and leadership skills. Recruits, counsels and advises students with respect to athletic performance and other personal development issues. Prepare the student athletes for competition through planning and conducting well‑organized practices and contests. Direct the identification and recruitment of new players to the program, including traveling to regional high‑school and club basketball events and showcases.
  • Enforce and maintain an athletic program policy of educating and graduating student athletes. Work closely with the Athletic Director, Dean of Students, and other school administrators, faculty and staff to assure student athletes are academically eligible for a given sport.
  • Plan and direct the training of student athletes, and assess individuals’ abilities and skill level to determine appropriate team position. Conduct in‑season and off‑season team practice and conditioning programs including skills training and weight and conditioning training.
  • Assist in assuring compliance with National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rules and regulations for the specific sport. Closely monitor academic, conduct and physical requirements for each student athlete. In collaboration with the campus Athletic Director, complete and maintain records and statistics for accurate, mandatory reporting to the NJCAA and regional regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of meaningful professional development activities designed to enhance the skills of all Athletic Department personnel.
  • Enforce the District/college’s academic, student and athletic code of conduct. Supervise the student athletes during practice, contests, and travel. May drive college vehicles or college leased vehicles to and from scheduled contests.
  • Call, text or email results of contests to the Sports Information Assistant by 10:00 AM the next business day, and supply information to the Director of Athletics that can be used for publicity purposes.
  • Coordinate the care and reporting of incidents and injuries to the appropriate College and District personnel.
  • Prepare a season summary and ensure student honors within conference, region, and other athletic governing bodies are recommended and advocated.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Physical Education or a related field, supplemented by 4‑6 years of coaching and/or collegiate/professional playing experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within a particular sport.
  • Coaching certification preferred.
  • First Aid certification preferred.
  • Current CPR/AED certification by the American Heart Association or the Red Cross required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, planning and leadership skills required.
  • Must be able to serve as a positive role model for young adults.
  • Must be familiar with NJCAA rules and regulations.
OTHER INFORMATION:

Salary: $4,800–$8,400 stipend per season

Offered salary will be determined based on sport and applicant's years of experience.

Assistant Coaches are hired on a season‑by‑season basis. A reasonable effort is made to assure future coaching assignments to those coaches who have had a history of successful academic and athletic team performances at City Colleges of Chicago. All coaching assignments are conditioned on sufficient team membership. Once a season starts, the Assistant Coach is expected to complete the season.
