Job summary

St. John Paul II Academy in Corpus Christi, TX is seeking an Assistant Coach for Softball for the 2026-2027 school year, with a part-time schedule from January through April 2027. The coach will instruct and mentor student-athletes to develop skills and sportsmanship in the softball program.

The role requires a genuine commitment to Catholic ministry values, the ability to work with students and staff, and adherence to diocese policies. Prior coaching experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in the assigned sport.
• Valid Texas driver’s license.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures.
• Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• CPR Certified.
• Must successfully complete pre-employment screening including criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review (MVR), and drug screening.
• Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required.
• Must adhere to all Diocesan policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• As an integral part of ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life.
• Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
• Continuously grow in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.
• Use of a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned.
• Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
• Work with other members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of students athletes.
• Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis. Model performance criteria and physical movement required for successful student performance of sport.
• Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Work with the athletic director to schedule fundraising events, planned special events, practices and any added competition events.
• Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
• Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation process of the coaching program and make changes based on findings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Demonstrates a professional attitude as a member of diocesan staff.
• Maintains confidentiality in matters of assigned department and the diocese.
• Serves as a representative of the diocese displaying courtesy, tact, positivity, and discretion in all interactions with colleagues and community served.

Job Details: Job Location: Corpus Christi, TX 78415, Salary Range: $1,500.00 - $1,500.00 Salary, St. John Paul II Academy in Corpus Christi, Texas, is hiring an Assistant Coach for Softball for the 2026-2027 school year. The primary responsibilities of the Coach are to instruct and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in assigned sport(s).

This is a part-time position starting in January 2027 and ending in April 2027.
