Job Title: Assistant Coach - Men's VolleyballDepartment: AthleticsEmployment Type: Exempt, 11 month (0.66 FTE), Part -Time Staff (not to exceed 29 hours per week)Salary Range: $22,500 - $24,500Job Summary:The assistant coach is responsible for supporting all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division III men’s volleyball program. The assistant coach assists the head coach in student recruitment and retention; coaches student athletes and fosters their skill development; assists in coaching plans and implementation at practices and competitions; provides for students’ safety, health and wellbeing; complies with NCAA, and university policies; provides sound fiscal management; assists in equipment oversight, scheduling, travel planning, and summer camps; assists in off-season programs and athlete development; and assists in program communication and fundraising efforts with the Head Coach. The assistant coach will monitor/ support the student athlete academically when needed. The assistant coach will work with the head coach to build a shared vision, work collaboratively with the Office of Admissions, build and retain a diverse and talented team, foster good sportsmanship and a climate of respect, and provide an environment that supports students in achieving their athletic, academic and life goalsDuties/Responsibilities:Assist in the daily operations of the programRecruit prospective athletes that fit the mission and culture of the program and UniversityOrganize and conduct on field coaching during practice and gamesDevelop scouting reportsAssist with administrative duties such as budgeting, scheduling, travel, equipment management, and inventory managementAssist with field and facility maintenanceAssist with program fundraising initiativesAssist with program community service opportunitiesAssist with program marketing and branding on social mediaAssist with uniform maintenance and laundryAssist in the development of camps for the recruitment of student-athletesProvide mentoring and support for student-athletes regarding academics, player, and leadership developmentComply with all NCAA, conference, and university policies and regulationsSecondary duties as assigned by athletic departmentRequired Skills/Abilities:Demonstrated leadership skills and effective communication and organizational skillsAn appreciation for the philosophy of the NCAA Division IIIStrong written and verbal communication skills and self-directed and motivated to advance Royals Men's Volleyball, the Athletic programs and the UniversityStrong social emotional skills and a student centered approach to teaching and learningMust be able to work and relate well with the public, students, faculty and staffStrong program management skills with the ability to recruit and retain qualified and talented student athletesCultural competency and diversity-oriented approachWorking knowledge of new technology initiatives (enter sport specific items)Knowledge of and/or a capacity to learn current skill methodologies such as (enter sport specific skills)Basic competency in Microsoft Office applications and Google Suite required and/or a willingness and ability to learn and use these digital work, scheduling, and filing systems requiredEducation and Experience:Bachelor’s Degree requiredDemonstrated effectiveness in playing and/or coaching volleyball is requiredPrior college or 2-4 years of high school coaching experience preferredCollege playing experience is preferredPreference will be given to candidates with prior recruiting experiencePreference will be given to candidates with prior experience working with and developing hittersMust possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the University’s insuranceFirst Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred at time of application, and required as a condition of employmentPhysical Requirements:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to work at a computer. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance, including prolonged periods of standing and moving during practices, games, meets, matches, and other competitions. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to watch and analyze video of opposing teams.
