Position Title: Assistant Men’s and Women’s Swimming Coach

Department: Athletics

Position Status: Full-Time, Twelve (12) Month Position

Reports To: Head Swimming Coach

Classification: Exempt

Job Purpose

The assistant coach will assist the head coach in managing all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Swimming program. The primary focus is on planning and instruction of swimming skills. The candidate must be committed to the academic success of student-athletes, supporting their graduation and positive collegiate experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Ensure compliance with NCAA, SAC, and Catawba College policies and regulations.
2. Provide individualized and team instruction, focusing on teaching skills and strategies.
3. Recruit quality student-athletes aligned with Catawba College’s mission within scholarship limits.
4. Manage the program budget effectively.
5. Maintain communication with athletics staff, including the Director of Athletics, Compliance, Sports Medicine, Media Relations, Video, Strength & Conditioning, and Facilities Operations.
6. Support student-athletes academically and oversee their academic progress.
7. Plan and coordinate meets and practices.
8. Develop student-athlete skills and evaluate performance.
9. Assist in supervising strength and conditioning programs.
10. Manage travel arrangements (hotels, transportation).
11. Foster positive alumni and community relations.
12. Administer daily program operations.
13. Prepare scouting reports and analyze game footage.
14. Contribute to fundraising and alumni engagement efforts.
15. Participate in campus and departmental committees as needed.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
• Collegiate coaching experience is preferred.
• Proven expertise in in-pool instruction and sport knowledge.
• Ability to recruit successful student-athletes academically and athletically.
• Strong leadership, mentoring, and motivational skills.
• Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience managing a competitive swimming program.
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
• Assist with pool maintenance.
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license required.
