Job summary

Johnson & Wales University in Providence seeks an intercollegiate varsity team coach to work with the head coach on in-season programming and team development. The role supports student-athlete growth and competitive success within the university's athletic guidelines.

You will assist with practices, contests, and recruitment travels, while helping supervise competition during off-campus events and representing JWU at athletic activities.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent required; coaching experience in intercollegiate athletics preferred.
• Valid U.S. driver's license required.
• First Aid, CPR, AED certification or willingness to obtain on hire.

Responsibilities

• Attends and assists with practices and contests to provide a positive, competitive student-athlete experience.
• Assists with recruitment trips to attract student-athletes for the program.
• Supervises the team at off-campus competitions in accordance with university and governing body rules.
• Represents the university at athletic events when appropriate.
• Aids fundraising efforts to support team expenses such as travel and apparel.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary

Works with the head coach in the supervision and development of an intercollegiate varsity team, including in-season programming, in accordance with institutional and departmental objectives within the rules and regulations of the athletic governing bodies

Essential Job Functions

• Attends and assists with practices and scheduled contests as assigned to provide a positive and competitive experience for student athletes
• Assists with recruitment trips as assigned to recruit student athletes to develop a successful, competitive athletic program
• Assists with the supervision of the team at off campus competitions as needed abiding by the rules and regulations of the team, the department, and the university
• May represent the university and team at appropriate athletic events (e.g. competitions, conferences and university sanctioned programs)
• Assists with the fundraising activities as needed to provide funds for team expenses (e.g. traveling and team apparel)
• Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of an associate's degree or a combination of education/certification(s) and/or experience suitable for the position
• Moderate amount of experience with athletic coaching, collegial playing or other related experience
• Valid U.S. driver's license
• First Aid, CPR, AED certification, or willingness to attain such certification(s) upon hire
