Job summary

Gannon University is seeking an Assistant Competitive Cheer Coach for a part-time, 10-month role to support the Head Coach in all aspects of the Competitive Cheer & Dance program. The team competes at the intercollegiate II level and attends the NCA & NDA Collegiate National Championship annually.

The position requires recruiting qualified student-athletes, training and developing squads, teaching advanced stunting and tumbling safely, learning USA Cheer and NDA safety rules, and

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; knowledge of USA Cheer and/or NDA safety rules and philosophy behind them.
  • Must be able to learn, understand and comply with USA Cheer rules (cheer) and NDA safety rules (dance).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to teach cheer/dance skills.
  • Must be able to support and promote the University’s Mission.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit quality academic student-athletes who are also competitive student‑athletes.
  • Train and develop all cheer/dance student‑athletes under the Head Coach guidance.
  • Learn and comply with USA Cheer and NDA safety rules and Gannon regulations.
  • Promote and represent the University whenever possible.
  • Assist in development/implementation of year-round strength and conditioning program for the team.
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to the program as requested by the Head Coach.
  • Assist in development/implementation of camps and clinics.
  • Teach advanced level stunting, baskets, and pyramids safely and with proper technique.
  • Teach and spot beginner to elite tumbling skills safely and with proper technique.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within scope and responsibility.

Job description

The Assistant Competitive Cheer Coach position is a part‑time, 10‑month role responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of the Gannon University Competitive Cheer & Dance program. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Recruit quality academic students who are also competitive student‑athletes.
  2. Train, strengthen, and develop all cheer and/or dance student‑athletes, under the direction of the Head Coach.
  3. Learn, understand, and comply with all USA Cheer rules (cheer), NDA safety rules (dance) and Gannon University regulations.
  4. Promote and represent the University whenever possible.
  5. Assist in the development and implementation of a year‑round strength and conditioning program for the team.
  6. Assist with administrative tasks related to the Competitive Cheer & Dance program as requested by the Head Coach.
  7. Assist in the development and implementation of camps and clinics.
  8. Teach advanced level stunting, baskets, and pyramids safely and with proper technique.
  9. Teach and spot beginner to elite tumbling skills safely and with proper technique.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope and responsibility and requirements of the job.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree; working knowledge of USA Cheer and/or NDA safety rules and an understanding of the philosophy behind them.
  • Licensure: A valid driver’s license with a good driving history is required.
  • Skills: Must have excellent communication skills and technical knowledge of the sport‑specific skills identified above for cheer or dance, combined with the ability to effectively teach and coach them.
  • University Mission: Must be able to support and promote the University’s Mission.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Cheer or dance experience at the collegiate level; preferably with competitive experience at NCA & NDA Nationals.
  • Team coaching experience at the high school level or higher.
  • Experience participating on or coaching programs that have a collaborative approach to their cheer and dance programs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to meet the physical demands associated with a busy athletic team schedule. Work is performed indoors and outdoors in a busy University setting. The work schedule will vary.
