The Snohomish School District is seeking a skilled coaching professional to assist the head coach in implementing a winter high school sports program. Candidates will help develop players’ skills, foster teamwork and ensure ethical conduct.

You will contribute to game strategy, maintain safety, and manage equipment and records. Requirements include coaching experience, WIAA certification or willingness to obtain, and background checks.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated coaching experience at head or assistant level.
  • WIAA coaching certification standard preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Teacher certification preferred.
  • Background checks and references required.
  • First Aid/CPR certification and HIV/AIDS training preferred.

Job Summary

Assists the head coach in implementing a given sports program. Individuals occupying coaching positions are responsible for developing fundamental skills and an understanding of the rules of the sport in participants, modeling and fostering cooperation, sportsmanship and ethical behavior. Coaches determine the system of play to be used and develop and implement best strategies and methods to carry out the system. They are responsible for maintaining a safe environment for participants, ensuring their eligibility and monitoring their behavior. Coaches issue and inventory equipment, maintain financial and other related records, and perform other related duties as assigned. Specific responsibilities for this position are as described on the attached job description.

Season

Winter - High School, estimated season dates November 24, 2025 - Februyary 10, 2026 (subject to change around athletic season window)

Salary

$5,811 - $6,922 per the 2024-25 Salary Schedule. Hourly rate/stipend amount is dependent on experience. *This is a 0.5 position*

Qualifications

The successful candidate will:

  • have demonstrated successful coaching experience, either at the head or assistant level;
  • meet or be willing to meet the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association coaching certification standard;
  • Must be at least 21 years of age;
  • Valid Washington state teacher certification preferred;
  • Employment as a teacher or substitute teacher in Snohomish School District preferred;
  • Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport preferred;
  • Substantial knowledge of technical aspects of the sport preferred;
  • Willingness to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the sport;
  • Possess or be willing to obtain First Aid/CPR certificates;
  • HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B training.

  • Willingness to pursue innovation and knowledge of new techniques through participation in clinics and workshops.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of safe training practices and appropriate injury procedures.
