Assistant Coach
REPORTS TO: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the principal.

JOB GOAL: To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. The coach must also instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes.

GENERAL: The success of athletic programs influences the community's image of the entire system. Public exposure and community/parent pressure for winning performance are significant, but must not override objectives of good sportsmanship and mental health. The position involves extended hours, risk of injury, and due process considerations. Coaches are expected to exercise common sense and good judgment in all situations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools' Board of Education is required, along with responsibility for their implementation. Coaches should understand the proper administrative line of command and refer requests or grievances through proper channels.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as a mentor to promote character traits such as trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for athletes during practices, games, and travel.
