VCU Health is opening a new Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Clinic at Reynolds Crossing in September 2025, extending the services of the Pauley Heart Center to adult cardiology and pulmonary patients. The Assistant Clinical Manager will be vital in building a high-performing, multidisciplinary team.

We seek a team member to start this summer with our existing Pauley Heart leadership team, preparing for the clinic's opening in fall. Clinic hours are Monday-Friday, 7am-5:30pm.

Role Overview

The Assistant Clinical Manager manages patient flow, coordinates clinical activities, and serves as a resource and leader for patients, staff, healthcare providers, and administration. Ensures delivery of efficient, compassionate care, supports nursing culture, and promotes excellence recognized by the Magnet designation.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage high patient volume (up to 5000 visits annually) across multiple providers and specialties in a geographically isolated, complex patient setting. Supervise clinical and non-clinical staff as needed.
  2. Lead clinical workflows, staffing, supply chain, patient engagement, and team morale. Collaborate with leadership to maintain operational excellence.
  3. Supervise care quality, staff competency, and fiscal management. Participate in hiring, coaching, and staff development.
  4. Foster therapeutic nurse-patient relationships, ensuring safety, addressing concerns, and promoting holistic, relationship-based care.
  5. Create a positive learning environment for staff and students, encouraging ongoing education, evidence-based practice, and professional growth.
  6. Apply nursing process effectively, manage clinic flow, prioritize activities, and coordinate multidisciplinary care to optimize outcomes and capacity.
  7. Demonstrate professionalism, collaborate on quality improvement initiatives, and adhere to regulatory standards (CMS, Joint Commission, etc.).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program.
  • Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible for compact state licensure.
  • Minimum three years of clinical experience, with at least one year as an RN; supervisory or charge nurse experience preferred.
  • Experience in academic healthcare or ambulatory care is desirable.
Physical & Other Requirements

Physical ability to lift 50-100 lbs., exposure to hazardous substances, and capacity for prolonged standing, walking, and other physical activities. Must handle fast-paced, high-demand environment and adapt to change.
