Job description

VCU Health is opening a new Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Clinic at Reynolds Crossing in September 2025! This location extends VCU Health's Pauley Heart Center, providing care to adult cardiology and pulmonary patients. The Assistant Clinical Manager will be crucial in building a multidisciplinary team for this new clinic.

Candidates should be able to start with the existing Pauley Heart leadership team in summer to prepare for the fall opening. Clinic hours are Monday-Friday, 7am-5:30pm.

The Assistant Clinical Manager will facilitate patient flow, coordinate activities during assigned shifts, and serve as a resource for patients, staff, and providers, working alongside clinic leadership to ensure efficient, caring, and courteous patient care. The role supports nursing culture, process improvement, and aims for excellence recognized by the healthcare community.

This position may manage an area with high visit volume (up to 5000 annually), multiple providers, a complex patient population, and supervise multiple staff members. The role involves maintaining workflow, staffing, supply chain, patient and team member engagement, and collaborating with leadership as a key member of the team.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Supervise care delivery, ensuring high visibility and engagement with patients, families, and staff.
  • Collaborate on organizational goals including patient experience and process improvement.
  • Manage staff recruitment, retention, coaching, and scheduling in partnership with leadership.
  • Provide leadership in patient care, workflow, supply ordering, and staffing adjustments.
  • Maintain staff competency records and participate in fiscal reviews.
Patient Relationship & Education
  • Model holistic, therapeutic nurse-patient relationships.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, address concerns, and promote safety.
  • Support educational growth for staff and students, promote evidence-based practice, and ensure competency standards are met.
Nursing Process & Leadership
  • Apply nursing problem-solving models to assess needs and manage clinic flow.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary care and optimize clinic capacity through timely admissions/discharges.
  • Lead and collaborate on quality improvement and compliance initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible compact state.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience, with at least 1 year as an RN; supervisory or charge nurse experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cultural responsiveness skills.
Physical & Other Requirements
  • Ability to lift 50-100 lbs., exposure to hazardous substances, and perform physical activities such as standing, bending, walking, reaching, and climbing.
