Job summary

SB&O Inc in Southern California is seeking an Assistant Civil Engineer (Design Engineer) to support grading, drainage, roadway design, stormwater management, and utilities projects. This early-career role offers hands-on design experience, permitting, and construction support within a growing civil engineering team.

Relocation assistance is available to San Diego or Temecula locations. The position requires a Civil Engineering degree, EIT preferred, 2–4 years of relevant experience, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualifying experience.
• 2–4 years of civil engineering experience.
• EIT certification preferred (or able to obtain within six months).
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D for design/drafting and MS Office tools.

Responsibilities

• Prepare preliminary and final designs, calculations, and engineering reports.
• Research project information and perform preliminary site investigations.
• Develop grading and site improvement plans, including retaining walls and erosion control.
• Prepare quantity take-offs and cost estimates for project budgeting.
• Assist with design and calculations for tentative and final maps.
• Prepare applications and reports for permits, approvals, and entitlements.
• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic calculations for stormwater studies and reports.
• Design street improvements, sewer, water, and storm drain facilities.
• Develop temporary traffic control plans for roadway and utility projects.
• Review geotechnical, environmental, and traffic reports and incorporate findings into design.
• Coordinate with reviewing agencies, title companies, utility companies, architects, and consultants.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering

EIT certification (preferred)
