Qualifications

• Requires degree/certification meeting TEA requirements.
• Strong reading, analysis, and interpretation of instructional materials.
• Ability to plan lessons and programs based on student needs.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of band instruments and seating for performances.

Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge of the assigned teaching field/level.
• Teach TEA/District/Campus approved curriculum.
• Meet and instruct classes in the locations and times designated.
• Plan a program of study that meets student needs with varied interactive strategies.
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity.
• Provide students with opportunities to perform and demonstrate musical skills.
• Guide students to maintain standards of behavior per district policy.
• Communicate objectives to students and align with curriculum goals.
• Diagnose learning styles and teach to all modalities.
• Evaluate growth and keep records and progress reports.
• Be available to students, parents and staff outside instructional day.
• Initiate communication between home and school and interpret the program.
• Support admin decisions and district policies.
• Maintain inventory of instruments and equipment for the fine arts department.
• Maintain budget records for repair and supplies and sheet music.
• Develop a public relations program to publicize achievements.
• Know UIL rules and district policies governing programs.
• Monitor student health considerations related to activities.
• Ensure medical releases are completed and on file.
• Perform UIL/PISD eligibility checks as required.
• Encourage participation in all competition areas of the program.
• Supervise students after activities until areas are cleared.
• Assist lead director with classes and performing groups.
• Collaborate with other directors for long-range student experiences.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal/director of fine arts.
