Job summary

University of Michigan-Dearborn seeks a Chief of Police to lead the UM-Dearborn Department of Public Safety (DPS) and oversee day-to-day operations. You will supervise department supervisors and emergency management staff, ensuring staffing and effective public safety services across the campus community.

You will report to the Campus Chief of Police and may assume duties as needed. This role requires rigorous background checks, drug screening, and fitness evaluations in a uniformed environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of law enforcement leadership experience.
• Knowledge of state and federal regulatory agencies and laws.
• Campus law enforcement and Clery compliance experience preferred.
• Leadership training such as FBI NA, Police Staff and Command.
• Experience with budgeting and strategic planning.

Responsibilities

• Supervise department supervisors and emergency management staff.
• Assist Chief of Police with all DPS operations.
• Ensure adequate staffing on all shifts to deliver public safety services.
• Address employee concerns and grievances.
• Lead patrol operations, criminal investigations, and community engagement.
• Represent DPS at committees and liaise with external agencies.
