Job summary

Healthcare Homes’ Foxearth Lodge in Saxtead is recruiting an Assistant Chef to support the Head Chef, deliver nutritious meals for 67 residents, and maintain high kitchen standards. You will help manage day-to-day cooking, ensure food hygiene, and contribute to a calm, supportive kitchen environment.

The role is part-time at 33 hours per week, including alternate weekends, with training through our Healthcare Homes Academy and opportunities for further qualifications.

Qualifications

• Experience in a professional kitchen and good kitchen practices.
• Knowledge of food hygiene standards.
• City and Guilds or NVQ qualifications preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Chef in kitchen operations.
• Deliver nutritious meals to residents.
• Manage stock control.
• Lead and motivate a team.

£12.91 per hour

If you are kind, compassionate and committed, we would love for you to join our kitchen team in our lovely nursing home, Foxearth Lodge in Saxtead , catering for 67residents.

Foxearth Lodge provides nursing, residential, respite and dementia care to residents within the area of Saxtead in Suffolk. The home can also provide care for younger people with physical disabilities. The environment within the home is calming and cheerful among staff and residents - there is a real family feel.

What would a typical day look like?

• Help manage the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence
• Work to deliver nutritious and wholesome dishes cooked at the highest quality and standards
• Manage stock control
• To assist in leading and motivating a team
• Support the Head Chef with writing and planning weekly menus, ordering as well as keeping wastage to a minimum.

The successful candidate will have experience in working in a professional kitchen, have good organisational skills and knowledge of good kitchen practices and food hygiene standards. City and Guilds or NVQ qualifications are preferred but not essential as they can be provided through our Academy.
