Job summary

Healthcare Homes Group in Suffolk, UK, is seeking an Assistant Chef to join the Foxearth Lodge kitchen. The role involves supporting in the Head Chef’s absence, preparing nutritious meals for 67 residents, and ensuring high standards of hygiene and portion control.

The position offers 33 hours per week, includes alternate weekends, a pension, generous holiday entitlement and access to the Healthcare Homes Academy training.

Qualifications

• Experience in a professional kitchen.
• Good organisational skills and strong food hygiene practices.
• City and Guilds or NVQ qualifications are preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist in kitchen operations in Head Chef's absence.
• Prepare nutritious, high-quality meals.
• Manage stock control.
• Lead and motivate a kitchen team.
• Assist with weekly menu planning, ordering, and waste minimisation.

Assistant Chef

£12.91 per hour

33 hours per week (includes alternate weekends)

If you are kind, compassionate and committed, we would love for you to join our kitchen team in our lovely nursing home, Foxearth Lodge in Saxtead , catering for 67residents.

Foxearth Lodge provides nursing, residential, respite and dementia care to residents within the area of Saxtead in Suffolk. The home can also provide care for younger people with physical disabilities. The environment within the home is calming and cheerful among staff and residents – there is a real family feel.

What would a typical day look like?

• Help manage the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence
• Work to deliver nutritious and wholesome dishes cooked at the highest quality and standards
• Manage stock control
• To assist in leading and motivating a team
• Support the Head Chef with writing and planning weekly menus, ordering as well as keeping wastage to a minimum.

The successful candidate will have experience in working in a professional kitchen, have good organisational skills and knowledge of good kitchen practices and food hygiene standards. City and Guilds or NVQ qualifications are preferred but not essential as they can be provided through our Academy.
