MWC is a state of the art cheese and whey production facility in St. Johns, MI. MWC is a joint venture between Glanbia Nutritionals, Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) and Select Milk Producers Inc. (Select).

Job Summary

Operates and leads any position within the plant and occasionally directs production activities and personnel for assigned shift.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for knowledge of every position in cheese production or CIP the cheese plant.
  • Responsible for the ability to run any computer system needed to operate production or CIP in any given area.
  • Ensures that samples are run and if needed, determine the best action to bring the product into specification. Will notify the supervisor if the product is not within the required specifications.
  • Maintains product loss sheets to keep an accurate recording of the product being wasted.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate reports of process loss and inventory records turned in daily to the supervisor.
  • Responsible for reviewing log sheets for Charm Quad Incubator, refrigerator temperature, and sustainability tests.
  • Responsible for the review of wash tag information on incoming tankers. Review the incoming milk truck manifest and keep up with records.
  • Ensures that proper procedures are followed if a positive antibiotic load is found. Ensure all paperwork is maintained for MDARD and NCIMS/FDA
  • Must be able to obtain certification as an Industrial Supervisor for antibiotic testing to assist with all the regulatory requirements outlined on the 2400 FDA forms for Appendix N for bulk testing.
  • Observes incoming milk trucks for unnecessary backlog. Makes suggestions to Team Leader for improvement in receiving milk supply.
  • Keeps records in accordance with good manufacturing process and environmental policies.
  • Maintains 5S standards and support all GPS activities
  • Put away, label, and organize all cheese cultures
  • Will work to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Will report all issues to the appropriate Production Manager and Team Leader.
  • Will need to ensure the MCRS and inventories are completed each day and report issues to finance and production.
  • Be responsible for cheese culture unloading and inventory
  • Will utilize the GPS theory and tools to reduce waste.
  • Document Control for cheese department scanning all logs into PDF.
  • Assist in communication between operators and management staff.
  • Facilitates training of new team members and tracks current team member skill achievement.
  • Ensures safe operating practices and helps in reporting and analyzing work-related injuries.
  • Oversees CIP for assigned machinery & ensures that GMPs are followed.
  • Keep records in accordance with good manufacturing process and local and state laws.
  • Utilizes GPS processes, driving zero losses and upholds the culture of MWC non-negotiables.
  • Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued according to the Occupational Safety and Health Act which are applicable to his/her own actions and conduct.
  • Complies with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates (Safe Quality Foods, Food and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance)

Qualifications
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and delegate assignments to others.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
  • Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
Typical Environmental Conditions
  • May be exposed to loud noise levels (i.e., manufacturing equipment).
  • May be exposed to humidity, intense heat, and areas with possible air contamination, fumes, and toxic chemicals.
  • May work in areas with mechanical moving parts, above ground with a risk of fall, or areas with risk of electrical shock.
Travel Requirements
  • Minimal travel limited within the local area.
