General Description

The Assistant Center Manager provides administrative support for the Center Manager and assists in maintaining daily operations in compliance with DCF, APPLE, and Head Start regulations.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Assist the Center Manager with daily operations.
  2. Promote a culturally sensitive, developmentally appropriate educational program.
  3. Ensure classrooms meet high-quality standards.
  4. Support curriculum implementation, child observations, and data analysis.
  5. Assist with staffing and scheduling.
  6. Maintain staff records in compliance with regulations.
  7. Coordinate USDA food program records.
  8. Manage inventory and purchases for the center.
  9. Maintain petty cash and reconcile monthly.
  10. Keep the office organized and welcoming.
  11. Greet visitors and respond to inquiries.
  12. Support data entry and record keeping.
  13. Assist with communication and newsletters.
  14. Participate in site maintenance and safety procedures.
  15. Support classroom activities and staff training.
  16. Handle parent concerns professionally and promptly.
  17. Ensure compliance with licensing and accreditation standards.
  18. Assist in staff meetings and training.
  19. Maintain Parent Board information.
  20. Calculate and report Non-Federal Share contributions.
  21. Pursue ongoing professional development.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.
Organizational Relationship

This position reports to the Center Manager.

Requirements
Education and Experience
  • Associates degree preferred; 1-3 years related administrative experience required.
  • Director’s Credential; VPK endorsement preferred or to be obtained within 1 year.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate.
  • Professional, tactful communication skills.
  • Good judgment and emotional maturity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently.
Certifications
  • Complete TB screening before contact with children, renewed every 2 years.
  • Complete 45-hour DCF training within 12 months if applicable.
  • Complete online Food Handlers course within 90 days.
  • Current First Aid and Pediatric CPR certifications.
  • Minimum 25 hours of in-service training annually.
Environmental Conditions
  • Work inside in a childcare setting.
  • Some travel required.
Physical Skills
  • Acceptable eyesight and hearing.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Salary

$19.94 - $20.48 per hour
